Mike Gough

Mike Gough’s fascination with the elusive nature of memories has been the focus of much of his work. His paintings are deeply autobiographical, depicting scenes from his youth in western Newfoundland. However, they tell stories that are universally relatable. In This Place Will Follow You, Gough depicts an individual looking at a city of lights past the ocean. A sense of longing and homesickness is palpable. It also examines how the very elements of nature define us, and connect us to one another. Gough depicts a story that is uniquely and intimately his, while welcoming the viewer to see it as their own tale.
