In Alone Together, Kym Greeley seeks to move away from outdated depictions of post-confederation Newfoundland. The quant images of small communities and fishing boats are a far cry from the reality of the present day. The nature of newfoundland is now glimpsed mostly from passing cars, with highways slicing through the landscape. Stylistically, Greeley employs the windshield as a compositional frame, while drawing inspiration from video games with a flat perspective. She depicts terrain that is familiar but seldom receives the level of attention it deserves. Starting with photographs as source material, she distills the images down to their rawest elements.
